Have you supported Digi-Bridge?

Bridging the Digital Divide.

I introduced David and Digi-Bridge back in May and since then they’ve gone on to do even more awesome things. I wanted to provide a quick update as this week they were chosen to compete for a Leadership Symposium this Spring in Raleigh. The work he’s doing is essential. Support them.

Here’s the announcement from the Digi-Bridge Facebook page.

“We are so excited to announce that Digi-Bridge was selected as a finalist at the Discovery Forum Charlotte! We will be attending a Leadership Symposium in Raleigh in this spring and compete for the chance to win $10k! Thank you to the Institute for Emerging Issues and everyone who voted to ‪#‎bridgethedivide‬. Want to get involved?”

Original Intro Date: May 15th, 2015

Hi! Meet David of Digi-Bridge. People that are passionate for education get me all pumped up. I know, I know… who doesn’t care about education, right? I’m talking people that live and breath it. That truly understand why it’s important and how a lack of it can severely effect one person as well as an entire community. David is that person. He’s awesome. I asked him five questions. Beth Mack asked him one.

What is your passion?

My passion is educational equity ensuring that the playing field is leveled for our learners… our 21st century learners. It wasn’t until I wrapped up my undergrad experience that I even realized there was inequity in the education system. I thought that everybody got the same level of education if they were attending a public school. I thought that everybody knew their teachers and their teachers stayed at the same school until they retired. Your mom had them at her birthday party and they were friends and it was a community effort to educate the whole child, every child within the neighborhood.

If you could back in time and change one thing about your life what would it be?

I’ll just be completely transparent. I probably would have stopped drinking the first time I hugged the porcelain god. That time when I said I’m never drinking again when I was 21. I wish I had never drank again.

What is your greatest indulgence?

Yoga, Hot Yoga. Lots of it. I love it.

What frustrates you?

Do you get frustrated a lot? What frustrates you? Oh man, poor service at a restaurant. Definitely frustrates me. Value pack coupon mailers frustrate me. It’s an incredible waste of paper. No one’s looking at it. Those envelopes full of coupons. What a waste. All those random little sheets of paper that you’re supposed to go through.

What’s the first that went through your head today?

Charlotte Agenda, Charlotte Five or Daily Skim. Which one do I read first? By the time I get up they are all in my inbox. I’m trying to figure out if I want to be a well rounded citizen, a global citizen as well as a community citizen. Which one do I start with? Skims become the least enjoyable to me because it’s so global. Agenda & Five have become fun because it’s topical. It’s hard to weigh which one comes first.

What is the dorkiest thing that you do?

The dorkiest thing I do? I write big goals on a whiteboard in my room every single week. It’s pretty f’ing dorky.
