Have you supported Girls Rock Charlotte?

The Girls Rock Charlotte Summer camp concert is Saturday August 1 @ 7pm. Get your tickets here.

Hi! Have you supported Kelly Finley & Girls Rock Charlotte?

She’s doing amazing things to build young girls self esteem and confidence at an age when those things are at their thinnest. She’s supporting female empowerment and helping young women in charlotte learn music but it’s so much more than that. She’s designed the girls rock summer camp to help them become well rounded and confident individuals and reminding them that the sky’s the limit.

I asked Kelly seven questions. Her answers are below.

What are you most passionate about?

I’m passionate about sustaining an activist synergy. Everything I do, everyone I work with, and every extra moment that I have, I dedicate to helping women and girls. I surround myself with like minded folks working on similar endeavors. It creates an energy that feeds me and is rewarding to sustain. … And I also love everything “Wonder Woman.”

What frustrates you?

Traffic, “reality” TV and anything that seems like a waste of time and life.

What is your greatest indulgence?

I defend everyone’s right to a vacation – preferably without their loving, awesome kids. Some may consider it an indulgence but to me vacations are medicine. They make us feel better and renewed. You can’t change the world if you’re exhausted. And you can’t inspire people when you are stressed out.

What are you reading?

I’m on a Malcolm Gladwell kick right now. I’m reading all of his books and may just do a re-read when I’m done. They inform and inspire an under-dog like me!

If I gave you $10,000 right now what would you do with it?

I would give half to Girls Rock Charlotte so that we could offer more summer camps. Then I would put $3000 toward my daughter’s college fund. She is the reason I’m inspired to do so much. The other $2000 I would put toward my medicine…a cheap vacation to someplace warm with blue water.

Who do you look up to and why?

This sounds grand, but it’s true. I look up to every woman who came before me. As a scholar of women’s history, I know that everything and every right I have is because a woman fought for me to have it. I feel called and honored to continue their fight.

What’s missing from CLT for non-profits?

I would love to see a consortium or an organization where professionals (accountants, lawyers, photographers, PR, web, etc.) can donate their skills and time to other small and mid-size non-profits. I know all too well how much these talents can help and even save a non-profit.
