Have you met Katy Hill?
She is an amazing, creative and positive force in Charlotte.
Hi! Have you met Katy Hill?
I first met her on Twitter over two years ago. I was immediately taken by her refreshing honesty and her love of music. When I met her in person, I realized she is MORE than what I originally thought. When we met, we both remarked on how it seemed we had known each other our whole lives and an immediate friendship began.
Katy is a true creative with a keen and decisive eye. Photography, music, creative direction, visual styling, interior design … you name it and she can do it. She is also a business owner. Katy, her husband, Adam, and their business partner, Justin, formed Two Bottles Wine Co. earlier this year. Two Bottles is a business focused on bringing wine produced by small batch, family owned wineries in Italy to the U.S. via online orders.
Katy is one of my best friends, but she is MORE than that. She is an amazing, creative and positive force in Charlotte and it is my honor to introduce her to you.
I asked her 6 questions. Her answers are below.
Editors Quick Note: I had this intro ready to go a couple weeks a go but new awesomeness has happened in Katy’s life. The following is an announcement from Katy herself. We wish her the best of luck in her new endeavor.
I’m starting a new business! I’m slowly rolling out a few of my services before I officially launch. One of those services is helping small businesses, brands, solopreneurs, entrepreneurs, and creatives discover and create the ideal look and feel for their Instagram page.
It is becoming more and more important to have a beautiful feed that reflects your business and helps grow your audience. It can be overwhelming to manage when you’re focused on building and running your business, but I’m here to help!
I can work with you to create a plan for your Instagram account as well as help style, create and, if you are in the Charlotte area, take images as needed.
If you are looking for help with your Instagram page, please send a note to katydhill@gmail.com. I would love to work with you!
What are you most passionate about?
I’m most passionate about creating and the many ways that can take form. Creating vignettes for photos, creating a business, creating music, creating my community, creating a life I love. I was born with a creative spirit and it’s really only in the last few years that I’ve begun to tap into that side of myself again and allowed myself to observe and create beauty around me. It has been a really long time since I made room for creativity and I’ve only started to realize how important that is for me.
What frustrates you?
Hmmm..besides bad drivers? Okay, seriously though, what frustrates me the most is seeing people settle. When they settle for anything less than what they want out of life, especially when they are so close to achieving their dreams. Too many people quit just before they reach their goal. I know not everyone has to have these big, bold dreams, but I think most of us do, whether we want to admit it or not. It can be scary to say out loud what we really want to do and who we want to be.
I see people who know what they want out of life and are so close to getting there, but give up before the finish line because they find something more comfortable along the way. They find the “okay” in life and settle for that all for the sake of instant gratification. Also, side note, I know I’ve been guilty of settling. I think we all have been guilty of it at one point or another and it can be incredibly frustrating.
Beauty happens outside of our comfort zone, as cliche as that may be, and it takes time and patience. Being and growing in the uncomfortable has been a huge theme for this year. Embrace that uncomfortable and go for what you want!
Where do you see Charlotte in the next 5-10 years?
To me, Charlotte is a jigsaw puzzle. We have different pieces of this large puzzle forming, only we have the ability to create what the final picture looks like. We have one corner here, one corner there, each one with its own distinct personality and piece of this giant puzzle. We have the outline. We have an idea of what it will become. We have these little neighborhoods with their own personalities and I’m hoping, within the next ten years, the puzzle will be mostly complete and that the big picture, while it will never be finished, will be mostly formed. It’ll take a while for that puzzle to come together more clearly, but if we stop knocking down what makes Charlotte unique and wonderful, we might get there a bit faster.
What’s your favorite place to hang out in Charlotte?
So many great spots! I love hanging and getting work done at Not Just Coffee at Atherton or 7th Street. I also love grabbing a beer at Growler’s Pourhouse or NoDa Brewing. If it’s a wine night, grabbing a glass at Bond Street Wines (if you go, say hi to Jeff and Lily for me). I also love Reid’s for wine or beer (get the burger and a slice of cake while you’re at it).
Yes, I realize these are all places to grab beverages. Charlotte is a great city to be in if you’re thirsty.
I look up to my mother who is, without a doubt, one of the strongest women I know. She has been through so much and yet remains so positive and encouraging. She is one of my very best friends and favorite people in the whole world. She and the amazing lineage of women in my family, including my great-grandmother and grandmother who escaped Germany during the Holocaust, make me proud of where I came from and proud to be a woman.
If you could transform into one food dish what would it be and why?
All of these deep questions and this is the one that stumps me. I love food. If I could transform into one food dish?! Just one? Well, let’s face it, it would definitely be a carb. OH! The milk bread from Kindred in Davidson. Because, I mean, milk bread. With butter. I would also be able to live at Kindred, which is my dream home come to life in the form of a restaurant. Please and thank you and all the carbs!
