Hi! Have you met Kim Pace?
Kim Pace of Covet Atelier is an absolute delight. For those of you who might not know me, “delightful” isn’t exactly a most used phrase in my vocabulary either. When I see her Monday she’s rocking a denim jacket [a girl after my own heart] and even though it’s Monday and we’ve both been working all day she’s just as bubbly as ever. As a matter of fact, every time I have encountered Kim in the past month [Which has been fairly often. The woman is tenacious y’all!] She’s smiling. She’s perky. She’s, well, genuinely delightful. In a way that, on anyone else, I’d probably find annoying. I mean, what IS she so happy about? And I think that is the key, that’s what saves her. The fact that underneath all that perk she is extremely serious and passionate about what drives that tireless delight – raising money through her Kickstarter to get Covet off the ground so she can begin sharing the Carolina’s best handmade artisans with the world. so awesome then you can come to the next #instabeerupclt and meet her yourself if you haven’t already.
Kim has been in Charlotte for 10 years as a local English professor, but she’s truly passionate about the handmade community. In her own words Covet is “a place where local makers are the focus and where their work can be shared, cherished, and enjoyed by others.” What better way to celebrate Charlotte than to celebrate our own movers and makers?
I asked her 6 questions. Her answers are below her picture.
What are you most passionate about?
Creating a life where handmade, intentional living is the focus and where I can create a space with provisions for an intentional, handmade life for others.
What does your perfect day look like?
Sleep in until 10AM, snuggle my beagle puppy, get brunch at a great local spot in Charlotte, go on a walk with my boyfriend and talk about our favorite books, do some work in the afternoon either in my sewing studio or for Covet, make dinner & cocktails at home, and then watch one of the many bad reality television shows I can’t help but love.
In one sentence, what advice would you give yourself 10 or 15 years ago?
Be brave; you’ll never regret it.
What is your least favorite trait about yourself?
I am a hard worker, but so much so that I often forget to relax, enjoy time with my loved ones, or remember that I made promises to myself to cut off work at a certain time. It’s a constant learning curve for me.
How do you think people would describe you?
I actually made my friends do this for my birthday this past year! They all went around the table and said one description of me. They were so kind to go along with my self-absorbed request and said: silly, intentional, loyal, patient, and energetic.
If I gave you $10,000 right now what would you do with it?
Without hesitation, launch my new business, Covet Atelier – an online shop for makers & artisans within the Carolinas.
